A partial solar eclipse sweeps across Italy on the evening of 12 August 2026, the sun reduced to a thin crescent as it sets on the horizon. Italy lies outside the narrow path of totality crossing the northern hemisphere, but much of the country still catches a striking partial eclipse, with obscuration reaching 90 to 95 per cent in places. These photographs are taken from Bologna, where the eclipsed sun sinks over the surrounding countryside.
